All the World's... Vertep. The Holocaust Tragedy as shown in two Shows: "Everything will be alright" (Kyiv, Ukraine) and "Friedl Dicker" (Hamm, Germany)

In dieser englischsprachigen Analyse stehen zwei biographische Inszenierungen im Fokus: In "Everything will be alright" von 1994 wird die Geschichte des Pädagogen Janusz Korczak verhandelt, der im Vernichtungslager Treblinka zusammen mit Kindern, die ihm anvertraut wurden, ermordet wurde. Die Künstlerin Friedl Dicker-Brandeis setzte im Ghetto Theresienstadt Zeichenkurse für Kinder um. Sie wurde im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz vergast. Ihr Leben steht im Zentrum der gleichnamigen Inszenierung vom Helios Theater Hamm 2022. Verbindendes Element beider Arbeiten ist neben der Thematik die szenografische Idee des traditionellen ukrainischen Puppentheaters Vertep.

Dr Daria Ivanova-Hololobova ist Künstlerin und Wissenschaftlerin. Als außerordentlich Professorin am Lehrstuhl für Puppenspielkunst unterrichtet sie u.A. Geschichte und Theorie des Puppentheaters an der Kyiv National Karpenko-Kary University of Theater, Cinema and Television. Derzeit lebt und arbeitet sie als Stipendiatin und Projektkoordinatorin am Institut für Kunstgeschichte der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf und setzt ihre Lehre und Forschung in Kyiv online fort.

This analysis focuses on two biographical productions: In "Everything will be alright" from 1994, the story of the pedagogue Janusz Korczak, who was murdered in the extermination camp Treblinka together with children who were entrusted to him, is told. The artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis implemented drawing classes for children in the Theresienstadt ghetto. She was gassed in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Her life is the focus of the eponymous production by Helios Theater Hamm 2022. In addition to the subject matter, the unifying element of both works is the scenographic idea of the traditional Ukrainian puppet theater Vertep.
Dr Daria Ivanova-Hololobova is an artist and scholar. As an associate professor at the Department of Puppetry Art, she teaches, among other things, the history and theory of puppet theater at the Kyiv National Karpenko-Kary University of Theater, Cinema and Television. Currently, she lives and works as a scholar and project coordinator at the Institute of Art History, Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf, and continues her teaching and research in Kyiv online.
